DESCRIPTION:Conservation is the profession devoted to the preservation of cultural property for the future. \nCultural heritage and Art face threats from a variety of sources on a daily basis\, from thieves\, vandals\, and pests\, to pollution\, humidity\, and temperature\, natural emergencies and physical forces\, to all kinds of light. \nEffects stemming from these issues can be treated and sometimes reversed with interventive conservation after the damage has occurred. However\, many of the sources of danger mentioned above are controllable\, and others are at least predictable. \nOn my 25 years career as a professional conservator specialized in modern and contemporary art\, I can say that what the artists do when they create their artworks is crucial to minimize further the effects of the controllable sources of danger. \nRising up in Italy surrounded by Antiques\, I quickly learned how the conservation of an artworks from the XV century can be easier than preserving modern and contemporary art. \nAfter I graduated on restoration & conservation\, starting my training in modern and contemporary art I could “touch” what does means dealing with an artwork made by an artist who knows exactly which material was using\, Vs an artwork made of industrial products “easy to find-easy to buy” without knowing the composition or the property of the material itself. \nThis is the gap between the generations of our modern time and the old masters. \nThis is the reason why as a professional conservator I always want the best quality materials on any action taken to prevent or delay the deterioration of cultural heritage and art\, and I wish the artists learn how to connect again with the knowledge of materials and how to use it. \nSame as my wish to have professional conservators in Indonesia\, trained on proper school program\, internationally recognized\, which cannot be replaced by short sessions or workshops of any kind. \n~ Conservation starts at the artists’ studio. DESCRIPTION:The Faculty of Art and Design\, Institute of Technology Bandung and Borobudur Conservation Office in collaboration with the Embassy of Italy and the Italian Cultural Institute\, Jakarta organize a two-days event\, which consists of a seminar and a workshop. \nThe seminar\, to introduce the new technology for conservation of cultural heritage\, is conducted by Brahmantara and Panggah Ardiansyah from Borobudur Conservation Office; Pindi Setiawan\, Hendy Tiasa and Dianing Ratri from Insitute of Technology Bandung. \nMichaela Anselmini\, an Italian restorer will conduct a seminar entitled “Science for Conservation: New Technology for Cultural Heritage Conservation”. \nThe second day is dedicated to a workshop on reading the relief scenes of Borubudur temple.

The Seminar will be conducted by Rizki A. Zaelani. Anselmini’s skill consists of restorations of antique\, modern and contemporary artworks (included different kind of materials and media\, customized products for artists\, collectors\, photographs and galleries\, as well as art and conservation consulting. She also teaches restorations and conservations and how to make frames and gilding. Anselmini has more than 20 years of experience in the field.
